Potential Residents

The Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers continues to work on strategies to encourage new residents to relocate to our community.

Whether they come to our community to retire, to build a new business, to start a family or to just to enjoy a slower pace of life than can be found in the city, new residents attest to the natural beauty of the LaCloche Foothills region and often comment on the friendliness of our people.

Residents and visitors enjoy four defined seasons with plenty of opportunities to fish, ski, hunt, hike, camp, canoe, boat, snowshoe, or swim.  Bicyclists enjoy traveling along the TransCanada Highway (Hwy 17), up Highway 553, along Lee Valley Road and throughout our rural travelways. Off-road enthusiasts access our extensive snowmobile system. Canoeists, kayakers and boaters make use of the Spanish and Saubles Riverways and, to the east, direct access to Lake Huron.  No visit to our community is complete without a visit to Chutes Provincial Park and its network of impressive waterfalls or to the annual Massey Fair, held every August.

With Sault Ste. Marie to the west, Elliot Lake to the northwest, Manitoulin Island to the south and Sudbury to the east, the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers is close enough to urban centers but far enough into the wild to be perfect.

A well-staffed medical clinic, volunteer fire department, two libraries, learning center, arena facility, two community halls, outdoor rinks, a number of restaurants, thriving Mennonite and adjoining First Nations communities, growing arts community, and farming history are but a few reasons why visitors to our community often become long-term residents.
