SAFE DISPOSAL OF HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES
Every year, over 3 billion household batteries are tossed into the trash across the country! When batteries end up in our landfill, they erode and leak chemicals like mercury into the environment.
Household batteries can be dropped off at the Webbwood Public Library, Massey Public Library, Walford Post Office or the Municipal Office in Massey where they will be safely disposed of.
THE GREAT REFRIGERATOR ROUNDUP
If you have a fridge or freezer that’s 15 years or older, the Ontario Power Authority will haul it out of your home and recycle it in an environmentally-friendly way for FREE...you won’t have to pay or do a thing and by ridding yourself of that old, energy-guzzling fridge, you could save up to $125 a year on your electricity costs.
For more information about the program for Hydro One customers, please visit the OPA's website at www.everykilowattcounts.com/roundup or call 1-877-797-9473 to make an appointment.
RECYCLING COLLECTION
On June 1st, 2011 changes were made to the recycling services in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers.
Firstly, curbside pickup of recyclables is every Thursday; however one week is the collection of fibers (paper and cardboard) and the next week is the collection of commingle (cans, plastic and glass). Collection will be the same throughout the Township regardless of where you live.
Secondly, several new products were introduced to the recycle stream. We are now able to recycle plastics - 1 through 6.
Riverside Enterprises has compiled a brochure to identify and describe the additional materials that can be recycled. Also available is a calendar for 2012. We encourage you to keep this handy as it provides information on the materials collected and on what dates.
Garbage collection will not change. It will remain on Thursdays, with a 2 bag limit per residence, and an 8 bag limit per commercial operation. You are requested to use bins to store the garbage bags at the curb if possible.
Please make yourself familiar with the provisions on the enclosed information and if you have any questions please feel free to contact Riverside Enterprises at 705-869-2447 or 1-800-341-5847, or the Township office at 705-865-2646.
