Parks & Recreation Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for the development and coordination of programs and facility scheduling offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. The position ensures that proper resources are available to offer successful programs and events to the public on a year-round basis. The Parks and Recreation Coordinator develops and executes recreation programs and leisure activities, including newly approved initiatives and liaise with various community organizations to provide support and ensure the provision of meaningful recreation programs and active living experiences for residents of the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers.
In addition, this position provides office support/assistance in the handling of capital and program grant applications, assists with the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget(s) and develops policies and procedures for the Department. They also oversee summer program employees, as assigned, and organize and track day-to-day activities of Parks and Recreation employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Degree or Diploma in recreation administration, sports administration, physical education, kinesiology or a related field;
– Minimum 1-3 years municipal (or related) experience (The Township may consider a different combination of education and experience where appropriate);
– Computer skills and be knowledgeable in the use of the Microsoft office package, budgeting concepts and cost analysis;
– Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills together with good communication abilities and report writing;
– Valid Drivers License

Building Inspector Internship
The Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector Intern. This is an eighteen month internship program with potential for continued employment. Building inspector internship programs are designed for individuals interested in becoming a plans examiner or inspector in Ontario. As an intern inspector, you will work alongside the Township’s Chief Building Official to gain hands-on experience in the field.
Job Description: Duties will include a range of building inspector duties such as limited plans examination, inspections and reporting. Completion of Ministry of Municipal Affairs courses will be required. General knowledge of computerized software such as Word and Outlook is required. Qualifications: The successful candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field. Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate; must be 18 years of age or older and be legally eligible to work in Canada. Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
Must hold a valid Class G drivers license. A criminal records check will be required from the successful candidate.
